Dog Calming Tips

Tips for keeping your dog calm

Dogs are an important part of the family, they help us to relax and unwind. If they are unsettled they can become naughty and uncontrollable.  Here are some tips for helping to keep them calm.

It's important to establish ground rules from early on in your relationship. Taking on the role of pack alpha will help your dog to feel more secure and less likely to worry about things. It is the job of the alpha to protect the pack and look out for any danger.

Dogs are pack animals so socialisation is really important for their happiness. Socialisation classes are a good way to introduce your dog to correct learned behaviour whilst they are still young and malleable. This can help prevent future anxiety and aggression around other dogs in later life.

Young dogs can feel anxious when their human is not around and sometimes this can follow them into adult life. If you have to leave them for any period of time you can leave them an old t-shirt that carries your scent. This will make them feel that you are still nearby and looking out for them. Filled bones are also a great way to keep them occupied so they are less likely to get worried.

Dogs need to stimulate their minds as well as their bodies so training and toys are a great way to exercise their brains. Training can be done by attending a training course or by training at home and can be very rewarding for both you and your dog. Trick training is a great way to get all the family involved and build bonds.

Dogs also require plenty of exercise to burn off excess energy and are a vital part of keeping your dog healthy and happy. This allows your dog to get back to nature and the freedom to be a dog that then enables him to be that faithful friend that you both desire.
