MY STANCE: "Calming supplements do not work, it's all down to the training and the confidence of the rider" WRONG - I was incredibly amazed to be proved wrong at Hartpury!!
Not only am I delighted to be on the H&H adverts for Liquid Caalm and bespoke, but I am also the biggest sceptic in the world! My story is completely true and I have to share this with everyone Alex and Jayne do not work with any riders who do not buy or ride on their products out of choice.
My 4 year old stallion was just behaving like a young stallion at shows, normal. But I wanted to try and harness that for Hartpury. So against all my views and opinions, I bought into the fact that 90% of riders were seeing the results.
I arrived at Hartpury gave him a 50mls shot before I worked him in, it is highly palatable so just gave it in a handful of molasses free chaff. Well, I could not believe the difference! He was not tense, did not behave like a stallion at all, had all the presence of himself and delighted me. I texted Jayne to tell her of my complete shock and delight. I soon started to see how many calmers were in the tack room and then watched how they behave. I found myself suddenly believing a great calmer really works!!
I got 75% in his test, I was delighted, he could not have given me any more. But even more delighted to have learned so much about supplementation in conjunction with feeding. sugars, chamomile, antioxidants, a balance of amino acids, these words suddenly became relevant!
This is the only company where the creators and formulators of the products go and ride at high levels too. Most are 'off the shelf' filled with ingredients that are not relevant to our own horse, or just traded products from people miles away from the end-use. Here I was deep into competition texting the company who hand-make the products as well as seeing that bespoke is best!
Such a shame it took me years to actually take the plunge - why did I ever delay. The support from this company is not just something saved for professional riders, in fact, they share their knowledge and expertise all day long, and then prove it by putting their money where their mouth is. It is a complete Innovation and I am thrilled to be part of it - I can not recommend this change in my world highly enough to everyone. Horses do need supporting when we ask more of them than to just be a horse - just as we do too!
