Blake is coming back!
Junior defied expectation and recovery and now Blake is on the same journey, fingers tightly crossed for Jo and Blake x
7 months ago I had to call the vet and I got the news I feared most. The injuries were to his hind legs and I was told to prepare myself that he wouldn’t be ridden again. That potentially it might not be viable to even have him in the field. He was so lax on his hinds, even with support shoes.
Spoke to Jayne at Hack Up as I knew she had been through it with her boy Junior. I went to visit her, saw how she had looked after Junior, from treatment, stabling to supplements and sat with Alex to work out a bespoke formula, based on the formula Junior had.
We have had 7 months box rest, shockwave therapy and supplements to help him during his recovery.
Last week the vets re-scanned and to say they were surprised was an understatement! His hind is stronger then they expected and they could clearly point out the new tissued to me on the scan. He was also standing straighter. The comments were “ this recovery may not be the prettiest but they are beautiful to see”
Today was Blake’s first day out. We choose a calm sunny morning where the yard was quiet. Before I cried because of the thought of what may happen, today because the future is looking bright! He’ll have until September in the field, we will rescan and then bring him slowly back into work...
